  • CHO-K1/NFAT-bla/M1 is a stable recombinant human cell line expressing the human Acetylcholine (muscarinic) subtype 1 receptor (M1). Under the control of the Nuclear Factor of Activated T-cells (NFAT) response element, this cell line can stably express the beta-lactamase (bla) reporter gene. Using a low-dose treatment of Mitomycin-C, these cells are irreversibly division arrested, but without apparent toxicity or change in cellular signal transduction. These cells have been functionally validated and tested under variable conditions. The activation of M1 can mediate "slow" neuronal excitability in the brain. It is a potential target for neurological diseases, such as schizophrenia, dementia and Alzheimer's disease.
